Cromwell never banned alcohol.

In fact, some Royalist propaganda made fun of him for being a brewer (which he wasn't, but his mother was married to one at one point.)

For a couple of years when I was about 9 we used to go with our next door neighbours to the Sealed Knot Civil War re-enactements... I was a drummer boy with a Pike regiment called meldrums.... we was Parliament (Roundheads).... was a right laugh actually and I was a full on scrumpy drinker by the time I had finished...
